Affiliate Tutorial: how to build an affiliate link

Written by KimC on November 16th, 2008

When you join the Vision Forum affiliate program, you are provided with your own affiliate link to the Vision Forum homepage, but you can also create a custom affiliate link to any other page on the site.

This can be a far more effective sales tool than simply sending prospective customers to the front page!

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log into the Vision Forum affiliate site: https://affiliates.visionforum.com/login.php
  2. On the left, click on “Build & Track Your Own Links.”
  3. In a separate tab or window, open the Vision Forum website (http://www.visionforum.com/) and go to the product you want to promote. Copy the url from your browser window.
  4. Return to the affiliate site. Paste the url into the “Define Your Own” box.
  5. Choose a single descriptive keyword to identify this affiliate link, such as LibertyDoll or JonathanPark and type it into the “Tracking Keyword” box.
  6. Hit the “Create New Link button.”
  7. Scroll down to see your new affiliate link.

Notes:

  • Your standard linking code found in the upper right of every affiliate screen will take viewers to the Vision Forum homepage.
  • When creating a custom link, you do not have to link to a specific product. You can link to any page on the Vision Forum website, including search results, catalog requests, Doug’s blog, and more. Be creative!
  • Make sure you choose a descriptive keyword for your link, so you’ll be able to tell them apart later if you build many links.
  • Links are arranged in alphabetical order after you create them. You may have to scroll down to find a new one, especially if you have created several.
